Mt Baker

After three years here in the Pacific Northwest, we finally decided to pay homage to Mt. Baker which we see on the horizon almost everyday. Mt. Baker is about a 2 1/2 hour trip from our home, but the drive is easy and very scenic.

Mt. Baker is a glaciated volcano about 10,500 feet in elevation. It is a popular ski resort and no wonder. Mt. Baker is one of the snowiest places on earth. In 1999, Mt. Baker received 95 feet of snow. Except for Mt. Rainer, another, larger volcano in the area, Mt. Baker holds more ice than all the other peaks in the Cascades combined.

Along the way, we stopped at Nooksak Falls. Very impressive!

On our return, we stopped at a little restaurant called Milanos in Glacier, at the foot of Mt. Baker. It was by far the best Italian food we have had in three years, since we left California. Mmmm!
