Here we are again!
Yep, it's snowing again in the Pacific Northwest. I'm still praying for warmth and sunshine but this white stuff is as pretty as ever. Wish you were here.

"Penn Cove" Mussels - Yum!
Cathy and I tried a culinary experiment today. We went down to the cove and picked up a couple handfuls of mussels. At low tide they can be seen on rocks all over the beach. A quick twist of the wrist and they pop right off. We had a couple dozen between us which we washed and then steamed with Old Bay Seasoning. They tasted great. With a little butter and garlic added they would taste even better.

Just a few miles from us is Penn Cove that is known world over for its mussels which are grown on long strands dangling from wooden platforms in the water. Ours are the same but much smaller. Penn Cove mussels are about 2 1/2 to 3 inches in length while the mussels at the beach are about half that size. They can be harvested year round and there is no size limit. Each person is limited to a ten pound bag. Had we known they were so easy to harvest and prepare we would have done this some time ago. Next time we go down, watch out!
