The cove below our house is known as one of the best crabbing areas in the Washington area. But first dibs go to the local Indian tribes who are allowed to fish prior to the opening of the season on July 4. So, for the past week Indian fishing vessels have been plying the waters in the cove in large numbers and laying out crab pots in the hundreds. It has been fun to watch and from the level of activity the fishing must be good. We hope they leave some crabs for us. Should be a fun pastime at the family reunion.
Eagles
For some reason the eagles have been very active in the area. Yesterday we saw 9 bald eagles flying around down by the water and over the house. Most are mature with beautiful white heads and tails but many are juveniles which have the coloring of a hawk. It is quite a sight watching these birds fly. Today one flew right to our window and over the house. It looked like the bird in the picture. Whenever I see the eagles close up I am reminded of the eagles in the LOTR and awe at how correct they got the CGI animation. In any event, I could watch the eagles gliding all day.
My Mother
The sad news is that my 80 year-old mother is dying of throat cancer. 60 years of smoking has caught up with her. She is in the hospital in Vallejo and is breathing through a trache tube and getting nourishment via a feeding tube. She started radiation treatment early in the week but she now has pneumonia and the radiation has been suspended. The doctors feel there is little they can do for her, but we are hoping for some improvement. Keep her in your prayers.
